Fantasy Football Studs and Duds | Week 2

What’s going on everybody, your boy TK back with my first edition of Studs and Duds of 2023. We had some crazy scoring performances in Week 2 and some head-scratching ones. Yeah TLaw, I’m looking at you. Jets coaching staff, I’m looking at you! 4 touches for Breece, really?! Kyle Pitts and George Kittle, come on man! But again, there was plenty of good. QBs went crazy! Puka Nacua made history. Keenan Allen and Mike Evans turned back the clock. And so much more. Let’s get into it!

QBs ran wild this week! We saw 17 starting QBs over 20 points and rookie sensation Anthony Richardson was on his way before he went out with an injury early in the Colts and Texans game. But it was Russell Wilson, Kirk Cousins, and Danny Dimes taking home the top 3 spots this week, all scoring over 36 points.

Russell Wilson – 38.9 pts
Kirk Cousins – 38.6 pts
Daniel Jones – 36.7 pts
Jalen Hurts – 32.2 pts
Josh Allen – 30.7 pts
Jared Goff – 29.9 pts

Then we had Lamar Jackson, Patrick Mahomes, and Geno Smith all go over 27 points while Jordan Love, Desmond Ridder, Ryan Tannehill, Sam Howell, Dak Prescott, and CJ Stroud all scored 23+ points.

Special shout out to Joshua Dobbs who lit the Giants defense up for 27.2 points.

Justin Fields – 16.7 pts
Brock Purdy – 13.7 pts
Tua Tagovailoa – 13.3 pts

Fields, Purdy, and Tua didn’t light up the scoreboard this week but there was one guy who takes the Dud of the Week. Trevor Lawrence. 8.24 points. Woof.

The running back position is always a wild one and this week’s leaderboard shows that. At the top of the leaderboard, we see Brian Robinson, D’Andre Swift, Kyren Williams, and Raheem Mostert as the top 4 backs…who saw that coming? Then we got into the usual suspects with Saquan, CMC, and Bijan, who will likely be on this list weekly moving forward.

Brian Robinson – 28.9 pts
D’Andre Swift – 28.1 pts
Kyren Williams – 28 pts
Raheem Mostert – 27.7 pts
Saquan Barkley – 27.2 pts
Christian McCaffrey – 23.5 pts
Bijan Robinson – 21.2
Rachaad White – 21.2 pts
Zach Moss – 20.7 pts
James Cook and Tony Pollard – 19.9 pts
Derrick Henry and Kenneth Walker – 18.5 pts

For running backs, I typically will say a single-point game is a Dud game. Which is why Jacobs is on the list with 9.9 points. Josuha Kelly finds himself on the list because he was projected to do so much more filling in for Austin Ekeler. He did not. Same can be said for AJ Dillon. Dameon Pierce continues to struggle with back-to-back single-digit games. And Breece Hall got 4 touches this weekend. 4. Brutal.

Josh Jacobs – 9.9 pts
Javonte Williams – 7.8 pts
AJ Dillon – 7.3 pts
Travis Etienne – 6.2 pts
Dameon Pierce – 5.5 pts
Tyler Allgeier – 4.8 pts
Alexander Mattison – 3.9 pts
Joshua Kelly – 3.9 pts
Breece Hall – .9 pts

This week we saw a blend of the crusty vets and young studs show out. We saw Puka Nacua dominate for the second straight week. We saw Keenan Allen, Mike Evans, and Tyler Lockett remind people who they are and we saw Tee Higgins, DeVonta Smith, and Nico Collins shine. And of course, we found some usual suspects on this list as CeeDee Lamb and JJ had nice games this week.

Keenan Allen – 32.1 pts
Puka Nacua – 30.1 pts
Mike Evans – 30.1 pts
Tee Higgins – 28.9 pts
Nico Collins – 27.6 pts
DeVonta Smith – 27.1 pts
Tyler Lockett – 25.1 pts
CeeDee Lamb – 24.3 pts
Marvin Mims – 24.3 pts
Justin Jefferson – 23.9 pts
Josh Reynolds – 23.6 pts
Brandon Johnson – 23.6 pts
Christian Kirk – 23 pts
Gabe Davis – 22.2 pts
Deebo Samuel – 21.1 pts
Davante Adams – 20.4 pts
Tank Dell 20.2 pts

Same rules apply to wide receivers that apply to running backs. If you are starting or flex-worthy and put up a single-digit week then you will make this list. This week we saw a couple of legit stars on this list. No wonder why AJ Brown was yelling on the sidelines at Jalen Hurts. You got Hurts, Swift, and Smith on the Stud list and AJ Brown finds himself on the Dud list. Makes sense. The man wants the ball! We also find Ja’Marr Chase on the Dud list. Like Brown, Chase’s teammate Tee Higgins is on the Stud list while Chase finds himself on the Dud list. The rest of the list was light this week. DeAndre Hopkins and Jerry Jeudy were Questionable but played and found limited results. And the roles were reversed in Jacksonville this week as Christian Kirk shined and Calvin Ridley went from Stud last week to Dud this week.

Ja’Marr Chase – 8.1 pts
DeAndre Hopkins – 8 pts
AJ Brown – 6.9 pts
Jerry Jeudy – 5.5 pts
Jahan Dotson – 5.2 pts
Calvin Ridley – 5.2 pts
Rashod Bateman – 4.8 pts (why is he even on this list?)

I want to preface this and say the scoring format for tight ends is 1.5 points per reception. So the numbers are a bit higher here than they would be in your PPR leagues. This week we saw TJ Hockenson light it up on Thursday Night Football leading the way this week for tight ends. Mark Andrews and Travis Kelce both were back on the field this week after missing last week and played well in their returns. We also saw Evan Engram put up top 10 numbers as he consistently did last season. Quietly sitting as the third-ranked tight end. And Darren Waller is making his impact felt on the Giants offense as he went over 16 points and is sitting as the fourth-ranked tight end.

TJ Hockenson – 29.1 pts
Hunter Henry – 20.2 pts
Mark Andrews – 18 pts
Darren Waller – 16.6 pts
Evan Engram – 14.7 pts
Travis Kelce – 14.6 pts
Zach Ertz – 14.6 pts
Sam LaPorta – 13.8 pts
Cade Otton – 13.1 pts
Tyler Conklin – 12.5

Then we saw 9 more tight ends all score double-digit points. Kylen Granson, Dalton Kincaid, Jake Ferguson, Noah Fant, Dawson Knox, Logan Thomas, Dallas Goedert, Mike Gesicki, and Jonnu Smith. Some decent waiver wire names if you are in a pickle. Particularly Jake Ferguson. Dak likes him.

It’s hard to be a Dud at the tight end position because I just expect so little out of it. This week Kyle Pitts finds himself the Dud of the Week again. It was a close call between Pitts and George Kittle but Pitts edges Kittle out this week. Kittle, however, found himself in single digits for the second straight week. Absolutely brutal.

George Kittle – 7.5 pts
Tyler Higbee – 5.7 pts
Luke Musgrave – 5.5 pts
Kyle Pitts – 4.5 pts

That’s it for now. Be sure to tune in to Roto Slappers on Monday Nights for more content like this.
